Making bread in a Slow Cooker

Bob Waldrop, who has been a Peak Oil/Sustainabilty guy from way back has moved his kitchen outdoors for the summer. He does a bunch of slow cookery outside. He posted this link the other day, said he tried it himself and was pleased with the results.

I'm all for outdoor cooking in the summer. The bread looks really crusty. I understand bread can be cooked in a solar oven too by letting it do part of its rise right in the oven.

Here's some baking we did in our solar oven a week or so ago.

I'm not seeing the photo that used to be here, so here's a try at re-inserting it.

The key is to reduce the amount of water in baked goods. The cake was fully frosted because we took this half of it to friends for an honest opinion of the results. Everyone liked it.
